At EirGrid, we are committed to being a responsible business. Our primary responsibility is to plan, manage and operate the electricity grid – but we must do so responsibly. We must make sure that the island of Ireland has a secure and sustainable supply of electricity. This is essential – to drive the economy, to enable industry and to power communities.

But this is not just an immediate need. Our work ensures that electricity users have power today, but also that there will be power for the next generation. Everything we do is driven by this need: to ensure you will always have a secure and reliable supply of electricity. This is doing our job right.

At the same time, we must do our job well. This means we need to safeguard and respect the communities and individuals that host grid infrastructure. We must also protect and sustain the natural environment.

Our approach to corporate social responsibility aims to balance the needs of the grid, the public, and the environment. Our goal is to find practical and fair solutions to meet these sometimes competing demands.

Key to our success in meeting this goal is our own people. They work hard to meet our responsibilities, and we support their well-being. We rely on and value their work and their contribution to achieving our goals.

Our work to achieve balance requires long-term effort, but we have already seen positive results. In November 2016 we achieved the Business Working Responsibly (BWR) Mark for the third time. This is an independent verification of our commitment to being a responsible business.

We aim for the highest possible ethical standards in what we do, and in how we do it. We achieve this with effective management, transparency and accountability. This supports our vision to be a world-leading grid company.


We power better lives today and tomorrow

We are responsible for a reliable and sustainable supply of electricity – today and into the future. This is the energy essential to everyday life. Our work is essential to industry, and for economic growth. We plan for the energy needs of the next generation.


We respect the environment

We strive for best practice in environmental protection when developing the grid. We enable the grid to carry ever-growing amounts of renewable electricity. We carefully manage our own environmental impacts.


We value and support positive relationships

We respect local co-operation that keeps the lights on for everyone. We give back to communities. We respond to customer needs and to stakeholder views. We work to develop positive relationships built on mutual trust.


We appreciate our people

Our team deliver these pledges. We provide the tools, supports and encouragement to fulfil their roles and develop their careers.
